Leadership Scavenger Hunt: Teaching Toddlers to Lead
How to teach your toddler to be a leader
Y’all. Y’allll. Y’allllllll.
Do you know HOW hard it is to find things to teach your toddler to be a bad ass boss leader kid? I meannn, it’s hard. I know I said this in the last post, but I probably shouldn’t have started out with leadership because it’s made up of a million smaller traits and you can’t really just focus on like one or two. Especially since like toddlers have the attention span of a goldfish.
Anyway, the reason I’m saying it’s hard is because we’re trying to make things fun up in here because you know, we’re all going to lose our shit if we don’t, and, well, there are no games. Well, maybe there are games that you can play as a teacher with your kindergarten class with the 15 26 other kids (lol, see what I did there?!) but there is not a thing, nada, zilch out there for you to play with your singular toddler that you’re homeschooling while your one twin is climbing up a toy kitchen counter and the other is kicking you as you gently change his diaper.
Sooo, what does a home-schooling mama do? Well, she turns to Pinterest for inspiration and gets her SEO brain training for fun words to look stuff up and comes up empty-handed. Then she cries to her husband for a week while she watches Jack Pierson fight a house fire.
THEN, she desperately digs deeper on Pinterest and she finally gets an idea to do a scavenger hunt because toddlers need to run around and stuff. (I promise, I don’t generally talk in third person. It’s just been a really long week!)
Also, it means I can totally sit for like 2.2 mins.
Okay, so what does this scavenger hunt even mean? Well, the whole premise behind this is so that you can inculcate a sense of accomplishment in your child as s/he successfully finds something from the list. As they are returning to you with those items, make sure you are reviewing the parallelism to leadership.
You can find the complete lesson plan, including the material list, directions, and objectives here.
We had a lot of fun doing this activity and I hope you do, too.
